The Institute of Computer Science was established in 1993 as successor to the Chair of Computer Science, established in 1980. At that time the elective module Computer Science became a part of Electrical Engineering study programme. We have successfully realised many research projects, which appeal to young scientists to join us. However, development of computer science soon dictated a new study programme. In the study year 1984/85 a new 8-semester Computer Science study programme was initiated. It was transformed to 9-semester study programme in 1993. In the study year 2007/08 the study program was thoroughly re-designed under the Bologna process. Hence, quick development of computer science is successfully transferred to students. After 35 years we have become the largest institute at UM FERI with excellent research results. While every beginning is hard, when a success was even a conference paper, we are now publishing, reviewing and acting as editors in highly respected journals, as well as performing research funded by national and international grants.
