On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, students of the CLOUD COMPUTING course had the opportunity to visit the HPC Vega supercomputer at IZUM. This is already the second live tour of this subject, the first one was held last year.
During the visit, the students were led by Teo Prica, who connected the visit with a recent invited lecture, presented on December 3, 2025, and with the presentation of a computer for a scientific audience at the ISC conference, in which we have been participating at FERI through the DAPHNE project (https://daphne-eu.eu) for many years. A free download of the ISC workshop proceedings is available at: https://isc-hpc.com/submissions/workshop/#wsproceed
We are particularly pleased that this year, with our course, the students of the University of Maribor have been admitted to the ISC Student Cluster Competition, which is hosted by ISC High Performance and the HPC-AI Advisory Council, and the start of the competition is March 23, 2026. Tasks are already available for students to prepare for the competition, where they will test their skills in the field of high-performance computers: https://www.hpcadvisorycouncil.com/events/student-cluster-competition/index.php.
Additionally, as part of the course, one invited lecture was held (December 10, 2025), where Konstantinos Chronopoulos and Veerana Gowda Patil Adarsh presented the functioning of services in cloud computing to the students. They presented the operation of the scheduler from Altair/Siemens, the analytics of license consumption and the successful execution of a large number of tasks with a sudden increase in the load of the computing cloud.
