Publish date: 2021/10/25 | Expire date: 2021/11/20

News is expired!

Last weekend, the Slovenian part of the 24-hour virtual world programming competition IEEEXtreme took place at UM FERI for the first time. At the same time, Slovenian teams competed with teams from all over the world in a single world competition, while the overall ranking was also updated live.

Among the registered teams from Slovenia, the first place was achieved by the BSOD team (Vid Keršič, Mitja Žalik), which also achieved an excellent result among the teams in the IEEE region 8 (25th place out of 1288 teams) and ranked as "Top 100" in the world rankings of this competition, in 81st place out of 5561 teams.

The achievement in the competition is excellent, but it is also pioneering, as this year UM FERI and Slovenia have participated in the competition for the first time and already achieved an award.

More about the event at UM FERI is written in the IEEE report (URL: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/286729).

The project will include extreme-scale analytics, in the fields of natural sciences, computer and information sciences, such as quantitative analysis, machine learning in the topic of artificial intelligence and data analysis in the topic of data science. The project consists of 13 consortium partners (with UM FERI as one of the partners) and is coordinated by Know-Center GmbH (Austria).

UM FERI is involved in project work from project management, system architecture, compilation and abstraction of a domain-specific language, runtime and integration, through use case preparations, benchmarking and analysis to dissemination and exploitation of project results. The project holder for UM FERI part of the project is assoc. prof. dr. Ales Zamuda from the Laboratory for Computer Architectures and Languages at the Institute of Computer Science. Researchers from the Laboratory for Programming Methodologies, the Laboratory for Heterogeneous Computer Systems, the Laboratory for Geometric Modeling and Multimedia Algorithms and the Laboratory for System Software also integrally participate in the project.

A list of consortium partners of the international project and description of the project is available in the press release posted at: https://www.know-center.tugraz.at/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/PR_DAPHNE_final.pdf
