In recent years, Slovenian media have revealed several scandals, the cause of which was plagiarism. Among those who transcribed their diploma thesis, without properly quoting the sources from which they were drawn, were members of parliament, ministers, directors, civil servants, university employees, and many others discovered by academic institutions themselves . Plagiarism does not occur only in academic circles, but it is also widespread in the economy, in the public administration and in other areas. The purpose of the discussion is to present what plagiarism is, how to prevent it, and how programs for detecting similar content work. On examples of transcribed texts, we will show how a program for detection of similar contents is used. Software which is used by Slovenian educational institutions was developed in the Laboratory for Heterogeneous Computer Systems at the Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
PROGRAMME
10.10 - 10.15: Introduction
10.15 - 10.45: Assist. prof. dr. Milan Ojsteršek – What is plagiarism and how do we prevent it?
10.45 - 11.10: Sandi Majninger – Identifying meaning in texts
11.10 - 11.30: Goran Hrovat – Algorithms for discovering similar content
11.30 - 12.00: Mladen Borovič – Hybrid Recommendation Systems
12.00 - 13.00: Discussion G3 2nd floor

On November 27, 2018 Clarivate Analytics, the Web of Science Group, published a list of highly-cited researchers for 2018 (https://hcr.clarivate.com/). Prof. dr. Marjan Mernik is for the second year in a raw on the list. His researches ranks among the top 1% most cited works in the field of Computer Science earning the mark of exceptional impact. More information about his research work is available at https://lpm.feri.um.si/en/members/mernik/. On the 2018 Highly Cited Researchers list are only two researchers from Slovenia, all from University of Maribor. Besides prof. dr. Marjan Mernik, the highly cited researcher is also prof. dr. Matjaž Perc from Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The inclusion in the list of highly cited researchers is also important for the ranking of universities. The Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) is one of the most established universities rankings that has been preparing a review of the best universities since 2003. It uses 6 indicators (Alumni, Award, HiCi, N&S, PUB, PCP). The HiCi (high-cited researchers) indicator in the 20% range takes into account the list of highly cited researchers prepared by Clarivate Analytics.

Members of the Laboratory for real time systems, in cooperation with the Community Health Care Center, Adolf Drolc and the Laboratory for System Design developed the "Smart Toothbrush Holder" and obtained a patent for it. The smart toothbrush holder allows one to monitor the position of the brush, and measure the pressure of the brush head to the teeth. With light signals and vibrations, the user warns against incorrect use of the brush. Using the Bluetooth interface, data can also be sent to a mobile device or a computer for further processing. The acquired data can be used for scientific research, to link with a serious game that will promote the cleaning of teeth in children, and similar. The holder is designed to allow the use of different brushes. The holder has a built-in induction charger to charging the built in battery. The development of the Smart Brush Holder was carried out within the EkoSMART project (Eco System for the Smart City), co-financed by the Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the European Regional Development Fund. The project at FERI is led and coordinated by prof. Peter Kokol, Head of the Laboratory for System Design.
